There are many reasons that laws are put into place. Some of those reasons have to do with accidents occurring or awful things happening to people or places. Some laws have been enacted because of stupidity and some happen because they are needed. No matter how a law comes about, once it is in place you have no choice but to follow it. When you are running a business, there are many laws in place to protect you as the employer and to protect your employees as well. Not following these laws can result in lawsuits and lost time on the job.

The Americans with Disabilities Act states that you cannot discriminate against those with disabilities that apply for work with your company. The most well known law is the FMLA or Family Medical Leave Act. This act states that you cannot fire an employee if they have to take time away from work to care for a loved one in the hospital or that is ill. These laws are in place to protect and serve all. When followed the workplace is a productive place. When not followed, you lose time on the job and end up paying money to those affected.
